THE AWAKENING
by JUDITH JOHNSON KYPTA

I CAN ALMOST SEE THE PEOPLE
GATHERING TO HEAR THE FUSS
WHILE JESUS SPOKE TO MARY AND MARTHA
WHO WERE THE SISTERS...OF LAZARUS

THEY WERE TELLING JESUS OF THE DEATH
OF HIS LONG BELOVED FRIEND
SAYING...IF HE HAD BEEN THERE
LAZARUS WOULDN'T HAVE MET HIS END

FOR A MOMENT JESUS STOOD THINKING
THEN TO GOD...OFFERED UP PRAYERS
AND THERE...WITH EVERYONE WATCHING
HE BRUSHED AWAY HIS TEARS

THE STONE...HE ORDERED FROM THE TOMB
IN A VOICE, LOUD AND STERN
HE ORDERED LAZARUS..."COME FORTH"
THEN THE SISTERS STATED...THEIR CONCERN

THEY QUICKLY SAID UNTO THE LORD
"HE'S BEEN IN THE TOMB TOO LONG
HIS BODY IS SURELY WASTING
AND THE ODOR WILL BE TOO STRONG"

JESUS SAID "BECAUSE YOU BELIEVE
THE GLORY OF GOD...YOU WILL SEE
LAZARUS WILL BE MADE WHOLE AGAIN
FOR FROM DEATH...HE IS SET FREE"

SUDDENLY THE CROWDS WERE SILENT
LAZARUS CAME FROM THE TOMB...WALKING SLOW
STILL WRAPPED...IN HIS BURIAL CLOTH
THEN JESUS SAID "LET LAZARUS GO!"
